Error 0x803FA067 / edition mismatch
You're trying to activate with a key for a different edition than what's installed — for example, a Home key on a Pro installation. The key only works on its matching edition. Activation after a hardware change
If you replaced your motherboard or moved to a new PC:
- Retail license linked to a Microsoft account: Settings → System → Activation → Troubleshoot → "I changed hardware on this device recently" → select your old device → Activate.
- OEM license: it won't transfer — OEM keys are tied to the original motherboard and you'll need a new key.
Re-entering the key manually
When in doubt, re-enter the key carefully: Settings → System → Activation → Change product key. Watch for 0/O, 1/I, 5/S and 8/B mixups — these cause most "invalid key" errors. Or use Command Prompt as admin: slmgr /ipk YOUR-KEY then slmgr /ato.
